United for a Polio-Free Future: High-Level International Delegation Meets Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal
In a significant step toward global polio eradication, a high-level delegation from the Polio Oversight Board (POB), led by Chairman Dr. Chris Elias, met with Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal in Islamabad.
The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister's Focal Person on Polio, Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq, who has been playing a vital role in coordinating efforts across national and international platforms.
During the meeting, Minister Mustafa Kamal briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s comprehensive polio eradication strategy, the challenges faced on the ground, and the importance of cross-border collaboration, especially with neighboring Afghanistan.
"Complete eradication of polio is Pakistan’s top priority," said the Health Minister.
"Federal and provincial governments are working in full coordination under a unified strategy. Pakistan and Afghanistan are part of a shared epidemiological zone—we aim to become polio-free together."
The international delegation appreciated the ongoing efforts of the Government of Pakistan and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the country in its mission to eliminate polio.
پولیو کے خلاف مشترکہ عزم | اعلیٰ سطحی بین الاقوامی وفد کی وزیرِ صحت مصطفیٰ کمال سے اہم ملاقات پولیو اوور سائٹ بورڈ کے چیئرمین ڈاکٹر کرس ایلس کی قیادت میں وفد نے وزیرِ صحت سید مصطفیٰ کمال سے اسلام آباد میں ملاقات کی۔ وزیراعظم کی فوکل پرسن برائے پولیو عائشہ رضا فاروق بھی ملاقات میں شریک تھیں۔ وزیرِ صحت نے وفد کو پولیو کے خاتمے سے متعلق حکومتی اقدامات، چیلنجز، اور سرحد پار تعاون پر بریفنگ دی۔ ان کا کہنا تھا: “پولیو کا مکمل خاتمہ حکومتِ پاکستان کی اولین ترجیح ہے۔ وفاقی و صوبائی حکومتیں مربوط حکمت عملی کے تحت یکسو ہو کر کام کر رہی ہیں۔ پاکستان اور افغانستان ایک مشترکہ زون ہیں — ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ دونوں ممالک ایک ہی وقت میں پولیو فری ہوں۔” بین الاقوامی وفد نے انسدادِ پولیو اقدامات کو سراہتے ہوئے پاکستان سے تعاون جاری رکھنے کے عزم کا اعادہ کیا۔
