Mustafa Kamal Reviews Progress on Telemedicine Project to Deliver Healthcare at the Doorstep
In a significant development towards transforming Pakistan’s healthcare system, Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of the Telemedicine Project. The session was attended by the Joint Secretary of Health, Director General Development, and the Special Consultant on Telemedicine.
During the meeting, detailed briefings were given on the ongoing progress, technical challenges, and the roadmap ahead for this crucial digital health initiative.
“Ensure the project is completed as soon as possible so that citizens across the country can fully benefit from this modern healthcare service,” — said Mustafa Kamal.
He emphasized that telemedicine is the need of the hour, offering citizens access to doctors and medicines at their doorstep through digital tools and advanced technologies.
The pilot phase of the telemedicine initiative is set to launch in Karachi and Islamabad, with plans to expand nationwide. This system is expected to significantly reduce the pressure on tertiary care hospitals, as around 70% of patients currently bypass basic health units and head directly to major hospitals, contributing to overcrowding.
“This modern system will not only reduce the burden on hospitals but also make healthcare accessible at the community level,” said the Health Minister.
Special focus has been placed on reaching remote and underserved areas, ensuring even the most marginalized communities receive consultations and medication from the comfort of their homes.
“This initiative is a vital step toward strengthening Pakistan’s primary healthcare system,” stated Mustafa Kamal.
The telemedicine project underlines the government’s commitment to digital transformation in healthcare, and aligns with its vision of universal health coverage through technology-driven solutions.
